Seminars, Lectures & Workshops (2022-23)

The Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organized two days workshop on “Python” on March 17 & 18, 2023. The resource persons on the occasion were Dr. Anil K Verma (Professor-CSED, TIET) and Mr. Sanjeev Rao (Assistant Professor-CSED, TIET). The guests were welcomed by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal and the faculty members of the Department of Computer Science.
On Day-2 of the workshop, Dr. Anil K Verma explained about the advanced features of Python, like, functions, inheritance, function overloading, operator overloading and many others.Mr. Sanjeev Rao related the real life applications of Python language and gave practical demonstrations. He also answered queries of the participants patiently.Certificates were distributed to the participants at the valedictory session. More than 120 participants of varied disciplines like BCA, PGDCA, B.SC, B.A. with Computer Science and B.Com attended the workshop.
A seminar on various programming languages was held on 26th October 2022 for BCA students by Prof. Rakesh Puri. Around 60 students attended the seminar. The seminar was well delivered along with the demonstration of various intricacies about the programming languages to the students. The event was graced by Principal, Dr. Rajeev Kr. Sharma, Dr. Vandana Jindal (HoD, Dept of Computer Science),Prof. Anuja Puri, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra,Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil, Dr. Rishm, Er. A seminar on “Internet Related concepts” was held on 11.10.2022. The seminar was delivered by students of BCA 1st Year. It was attended by faculty members of Computer Department along with HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal. She applauded and acknowledged the efforts made by students and stated that such sessions help the students to acquire better perspective of the subject.
Lecture on Mental Health Delivered by Dr. Rati at DAV College BathindaThe NSS Unit and the Department of Computer Science of DAV CollegeBathinda delivered a lecture on “Mental Health” by Dr. Rati (Academician &Physiotherapist, Certified Personality Development Trainer, Bathinda). Dr. Ratiwas accorded a warm welcome by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma,Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla and Dr. Neha Jindal; NSS Programme Officers Prof. Amit Singla and Dr. PrabhjotKaur; Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal and the facultyof the Computer Science Department, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof.Rajesh Batra, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil Gupta and Dr.Rishm.Dr. Rati delivered a lecture on “Mental Health”. Addressing the gathering,she stated that this is not a disease, rather a state of mind.
A Seminar-cum-Workshop was organised in the Computer science department, DAV College bathinda on 28th September 2022 on the topic: “Web Designing”.It was presented by Dr. Pawan Kumar for BCA and PGDCA students.This program provided an opportunity for the students to gain knowledge in understanding the principles of creating an effective web page, architecture and the language of the web: HTML and CSS. Towards the end of the session, he interacted with students and cleared their doubts and queries. Around 135 students attended this workshop.

A workshop on “Coding and decoding” was conducted on 22nd September 2022 by Dept. of Computer Science in Computer Lab-I,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Anuja Puri for the BCA and PGDCA students. The workshop aimed at enhancing the Coding skills of the students. During the course of workshop, the students were given an open platform to pose queries regarding future career prospects related to the type of coding. Around 48 students attended this workshop.
A Seminar on “Introduction to programming languages” was held on 21st September 2022 in Dept. of Computer Science ,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Shishpal Jindal , for the BCA and PGDCA students. Various topics including the basics of the language were covered . The seminar ended with the knowledge on the Programming language which would be helpful to the students in the coming semesters and during placements. Around 143 students attended this workshop.
A Seminar on “Fundamentals of Information Technology ” was held on 20th September 2022 in Dept. of Computer Science ,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Vandana Jindal, HoD (Dept of Computer Science). Around 120 students of BCA, DCA and PGDCA classes attended this seminar. The seminar aimed at providing an updated knowledge regarding the current computer trends. Around 98 students attended this workshop.

Seminars, Lectures & Workshops (2021-22)

Coding Competition was organized by Department of Computer Science in Computer Lab-I on 31.05.2022 Aim of the competition was to enhance problem-solving skills, develop team player skills and also to encourage students to write cleaner and better code. Competition has two rounds, in which Eight teams participated in forts round and Five teams were taken upto the next level. The Faculty members who were present during the competition were Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Shishpal Jindal,Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil and Dr. Rishm.
A mock interview session was conducted on 30th MAY 2022 by the Department of Computer Science in the computer lab-II with the goal of informing students about effective techniques for appearing in an interview. Students were divided into groups by different teachers, and respective groups of teachers were made: Group1 Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof Anuja Puri Group2 Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Shishpal Jindal Group3 Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar and Group 4 Prof. Ramil, Dr. Rishm. The main aim of all the group’s mentors was to inform students about various job interview setting and how to adopt themselves to it and to prepare their response. As many as 50 students participated in the session and mock interview were conducted with all of them.
A Seminar on “Machine Learning and a systematic review for cancer prognosis and prediction using machine learning techniques” was conducted on 19th April 2022 by Dept. of Computer Science, D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Rishm, Assistant Prof. Dept of Computer Science, D.A.V College, Bathinda. The students from BCA, PGDCA, BA and B.SC attended the same and they have learnt how machine learning is the force behind many modern technological comforts that are now part of our day to day lives. The event was graced by Dr. Vandana Jindal, HoD, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Anuja Puri, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan K Madhu.
The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics of D.A.V College, Bathinda organised a SERB-DST Sponsored National Conference on “Computational Techniques And Mathematical Modelling” on 12th March, 2022. The conference commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by DAV anthem. An abstract book was also released on the occasion. Around 135 delegates from various institutions participated in this conference. The guests Prof.(Dr.) Gurpreet Singh Lehal (Dean, College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala), Dr. Anil Kumar Verma (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Thapar University,Patiala), Prof. (Dr.) Geeta Sikka (Department of computer science and Engineering, NIT, Jalandhar) and Prof. (Dr. ) Manish Jindal (Panjab University Regional centre Muktsar), Dr. Sanjeev Sharma (Director, Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology (MIMIT), Malout, were accorded a warm welcome by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Dr. Vandana Jindal (Head, Department of Computer Science) and Prof. Atul Singla (Head, Department of Mathematics).
Since the start of pandemic, we have gone through multiple waves which have restricted our normal lifestyle imposed by several lockdowns and the other preventing measures. With the emergence of new variant omicron, we are seeing the number of cases is again on rise so keeping the mental well being and importance of stress management the PG Department of Computer Science and IQAC Department of DAV College Bathinda organized a webinar on the topic “Stress Management during Covid times” on 17th January 2022. IQAC Incharge Dr. Pawan Kumar and Dr. Rishm from PG Department of Computer Science welcomed the esteemed Guest Dr. Jiwan Jyoti Maini.Dr. Jiwan Jyoti Maini introduced students with the ways to cope with stress in a healthy way that will make you more resilient.

A seminar on “Advanced trends of Information technology” was held on 18.11.2021.
The seminar was given by students of BCA 1st Year. It was attended by faculty members of Computer Department along with Hod Dr. Vandana Jindal. Dr.vandana Jindal applauded and acknowledged the efforts done by students and stated that such sessions help the students to acquire better perspective of the subject.
A seminar on “Software Quality Assurance and Quality Control” was conducted on 18th november 2021 by Deptt. of Computer Science,DAV College, BTI. The Seminar was presented/given by Prof. Ramil Gupta,Assistant Prof. Deptt. of Computer Science,DAV College Bathinda.the students from BCA,PGDCA,BA and B.Sc. attended the same and got insights of how imperative quality assurance is in the IT industry. The event was graced by Dr. Vandana Jindal, HoD, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Prof. Pawan K Madhu,Prof. Rishm Mehta.
A seminar on fundamentals of information technology was held on 18.10.2021.
The seminar was given by Saksham, Harsh and Desania ,students of BCA 1st Year.It was attended by faculty members of Computer Department along with Hod Dr. Vandana Jindal. Dr. Jindal applauded and acknowledged the efforts done by students and stated that such sessions help the students to acquire better perspective of the subject.
A group discussion was organized by PG Department of Computer Science on 16th April,2021.Total 87 Students participated in Group Discussion.

The Career Counseling and Placement Cell of DAV College Bathinda organized a lecture by Er. Sony Goyal on “How to Crack “CAT” Exam” on Feb 28, 2020. Mr. Goyal is an Alumnus of IIM Ahmadabad and is currently working as Director at “ My Career “ , an entrepreneurial venture by a group of IIM Alumni with a focus to provide quality education and guidance for success oriented courses.
The Post Graduate Department of English, D.A.V. College Bathinda organized an Extension Lecture by Dr. Ashwani Rana (Department of English, CT University Ludhiana) on “Vocabulary Enrichment and Language Proficiency” on Feb 14,2020.
Lecture on “Foot Soldier App” at DAV College Bathinda. The lecture was organised under the directions of Civil Surgeon, Bathinda. This initiative, they stated would foster a better liaisoning of the common people with the Health Department which will improve its functioning and will make the youth responsible and aware of the people suffering around them.

The Post Graduate Department of Political Science organized an ICSSR Sponsored National Conference on “Institutions of Democracy: Challenges and Prospects in Present Scenario” on oct 30, 2018.
The Student Welfare Association in collaboration with Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics organised lectures on “How to Sharpen Your Memory” by Prof. Kunwer Rajeev and “Communication Skills” by Prof. Sharad Manocha on 24 oct.,2018.
With the aim to help students to develop their mental abilities, a lecture on “Vedic Mathematics” has been conducted by Info Maths on 4th Oct.,2018.
Student welfare department organizes a training programme on “First Aid and Home Nursing” by Sh. Naresh Pathania, Training Officer, Red Cross Society was conducted in the college.
Workshop and lectures were conducted for students of different streams, during the Library Resources and Services Awareness Week organised . The main objective of this workshop was to enhance the awareness of students regarding books, to optimise the utility of library resources and services in a better way and to make use of free time in a productive manner.
NSS Deptt. .organisd extension lecture on “Cancer Awareness” on 26-02-2019.Dr. M.k.Mahajan ,director and Dr. Richika GUPTA ,pathologist ,ACI, Bathinda created awareness.
The Department of Computer Science took the initiative of imparting basic computer skills to the senior citizens. A two week Computer Literacy Programme from Dec 24 – Jan 5, 2019 for senior citizens of Bathinda was organised in which more than 25 senior citizens of “Retired and Senior Citizens Brotherhood” got themselves registered in the course.
Under the SVEEP initiative of the Election Commission of India, the District Election Office, Bathinda in collaboration with IQAC and Post Graduate Department of Political Science of the college, organised a training cum awareness programme on Ethical Voting and EVM/VVPAT machine. Sh. Suresh Gaur and his team explained in detail about the functioning, usage and advantages of the VVPAT machines, the ballot unit and control unit. The entire process of casting vote was explained to the students through a mock drill conducted.

The Department of English organized an extension lecture by Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Associate Professor, Dept. of English, Punjabi University, Patiala on the topic “Reading Literature: Why, What and How?”
The Department of English organized an extension lecture by Dr. Jaspreet Mander, Associate Professor, Dept. of English, Punjabi University, Patiala on the topic “Multiple Thematics in Margaret Atwood’s Surfacing” The distinguished speaker Dr. Mander articulated on various themes of the novel like Eco Feminism, Post Colonialism, Post Modernism and Quest.
The Department of Economics organized a Panel Discussion and Quiz Competition on ‘Union Budget 2016’ under Planning Forum. The students of B.A, B.Com and M.Com wholeheartedly participated in the programme and spoke on the strengths and weaknesses of the Union Budget.
The Department of Hindi organized an extension lecture by Dr. Rajinder Kumar Sen, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Comparative Literature, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda on the topic “Adhunik Hindi Sahitiya Ka Samajik Paripekashya”. He deliberated over how literature in Hindi has grown over ages and so have the themes comprising of issues like environment, health, value systems, interpersonal relations, etc.
The Department of Computer Science organized an extension lecture by Prof. Simpel Jindal on “Software Testing Tools”. The lecture gave a new insight into the world of computers and technology to the students and the faculty of the department.
The Department of Economics organized an extension lecture by Prof. Sucha Singh Gill, Senior Professor, Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh on “Globalisation and Indian Economy”. The distinguished speaker articulated on Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization (LPG model) which has aimed at making the Indian economy as one of the fastest growing and globally competitive economies and elaborated on positive and negative effects of globalization.
The Department of Physics organized an extension lecture by Mr. Jaspal Singh Randhawa on “Nuclear Astrophysics and Radioactive Ion Beans”. Mr. Randhawa is a Research Fellow at St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova-Scotia, Canada. He elucidated on the various elements of Nuclear and Astrophysics and motivated the students to carry research in their respective fields of interest.
