The Department of Computer Science was established in 1997 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Computer Science. Currently, it has 6 permanent faculty members and over 300 students working towards their Bachelor’s, Master’s degrees The department of Computer Science offers programs of study (as prescribed by Punjabi Univ.) related to computing, information technology and software design and application. The Department has modern facilities for teaching, learning and research. The Department offers a wide array of research opportunities and programs of study at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The Department started a 2-year M.Sc. Computer Science programme in the year 2010 with the aim to develop core competence in Computer Science and prepare the students to carry out development work, as well as take up challenges in research. The department currently offers BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science/ Mathematics, B.A with Computer Science and M.Sc.(Information Technology). It also offers a one year diploma course in Computer Science after graduation i.e. PGDCA. The Department has well equipped 4 computer labs with latest software and tools in addition to requirement prescribed by the university guidelines. Classrooms with ICT facilities are provided to students.
Computer Science and Technology has become the backbone of science and technology growth, and has penetrated every aspect of social life. Computer science has proven to be a field of enormous challenges and even greater opportunities. We are determined to take a leading position in expanding its boundaries through research and teaching of the highest quality. Two Day “Python” Workshop
The Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organized two days workshop on “Python” on March 17 & 18, 2023. The resource persons on the occasion were Dr. Anil K Verma (Professor-CSED, TIET) and Mr. Sanjeev Rao (Assistant Professor-CSED, TIET). The guests were welcomed by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal and the faculty members of the Department of Computer Science.
On Day-2 of the workshop, Dr. Anil K Verma explained about the advanced features of Python, like, functions, inheritance, function overloading, operator overloading and many others.
Mr. Sanjeev Rao related the real life applications of Python language and gave practical demonstrations. He also answered queries of the participants patiently.
Certificates were distributed to the participants at the valedictory session. More than 120 participants of varied disciplines like BCA, PGDCA, B.SC, B.A. with Computer Science and B.Com attended the workshop.
The students expressed immense satisfaction at attending the workshop. They stated that the workshop was very informative. It is very useful in today’s times, when everything is technology driven. The stage was conducted by Prof. Ramil Gupta and the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Anuja Puri.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma at the valedictory session thanked the resource persons for sparing time off their busy schedule and helping students explore various applications of Python, their practical application in various spheres, be it in academics, designing or their profession. He exhorted the students to make the best use of such workshops and enhance their knowledge and skills. He also appreciated the HoD, the faculty members and the technical staff members of the Department of Computer Science.

Computer Literacy Classes for Senior Citizens
The Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda, in collaboration with the Senior Citizen Brotherhood organisation concluded the seven days Senior Citizens’ Computer Literacy Programme on December 21, 2022 in a befitting manner. The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh and the faculty members of the Department of Computer Science extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest Mr. Sanjay Mittal (Regional Manager, ICICI Bank), Retd. Prof. Sh. A.K.Gupta and Sh. M.R. Mittal.
The programme commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Vandana Jindal. She stated that the Senior Citizens Classes were conducted from December 14-21, 2022, wherein many concepts like MS Word, Paint, Media Player, Surf the Web, Online Banking, Online Shopping, Hands on Social Media, etc. were explained in detail. As many as 36 senior citizens attended the classes. A Power Point Presentation showing the glimpses of these seven days workshop was shown to the gathering. She thanked the senior citizens for giving DAV College, Bathinda a chance to extend their services to the society in a noble manner.
The Chief Guest Mr. Sanjay Mittal reminisced his journey as alumnus of DAV College, Bathinda. He said that being in the precincts of the college fills him with immense gratitude and respect for his teachers and the administration. He also expressed his wish to contribute in some way to his Alma Mater by interacting with the enrolled students and guiding them about placements.
The programme came into full swing with the esteemed senior citizens participating with full zest and vigour. Their spirits soared high and they shared their beautiful learning experiences with the audience in the form of songs, poetry, jokes and anecdotes. Each one of them expressed immense gratitude to the faculty for making them conversant with computers, teaching them the know-how of technological advancements and bringing them at par with the younger generation. They stated that online banking, online payments, social media, etc. which earlier seemed an impossible task for them, was now available to them at just the click of a mouse.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma expressed great pleasure to witness the energetic and noble minded senior citizens. He stated that the elders, who are the pillars of the society, today have proved to be our anchors, teaching us many valuable lessons in learning, humility and living life to the fullest. He applauded the faculty members and the support staff of the Computer Science Department, namely Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil, Dr. Rishm, Er. Sheenu, Ms. Yadwinder Kaur, Ms. Karamjit Kaur and Mr. Deepak for dedicated efforts.


A Convergence of Parents and Teachers in the Department
The Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organised a meeting with the students and their parents for the evaluation of academic and non academic performance of the students. The parents and their wards gathered in large numbers. The parents expressed their gratitude to the faculty and the college administration for giving an amicable environment to the students for their holistic development. They also appreciated the college for providing the infrastructure in the form of state-of-the art computer labs, departmental and central library and the other facilities.
The Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal stated that post COVID-19, this is the first meeting being organized. This platform invigorated a communication channel with one of the crucial stakeholders of the college, that is, the parents. The observations of the parents and the faculty regarding the students were exchanged and ways to deal with certain shortcomings were discussed and explored. The faculty gave their feedback of the students and the parents shared their concerns regarding their wards. Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil, Dr. Rishm, Er. Sheenu, Ms. Yadwinder Kaur and Ms. Karamjit Kaur were present during the meeting and deftly handled the queries posed by the parents
The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma was also present during the meeting. He addressed the parents and assured them that their wards were in safe hands at DAV, where each and every facet is taken care of. He also expressed his concern regarding the youth migrating to foreign lands, who without equipping themselves well with knowledge, are lured towards the west, and face innumerable difficulties there. He implored the parents and the students to make the best use of the opportunities available in their Alma Mater and the nation and carve a niche for themselves

Seminar on “Various Programming Languages”
A seminar on various programming languages was held on 26th October 2022 for BCA students by Prof. Rakesh Puri. Around 60 students attended the seminar. The seminar was well delivered along with the demonstration of various intricacies about the programming languages to the students. The event was graced by Principal, Dr. Rajeev Kr. Seminar on “Internet Related Concepts”
A seminar on “Internet Related concepts” was held on 11.10.2022. The seminar was delivered by students of BCA 1st Year. It was attended by faculty members of Computer Department along with HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal. She applauded and acknowledged the efforts made by students and stated that such sessions help the students to acquire better perspective of the subject.

Addressing the gathering,she stated that this is not a disease, rather a state of mind. She elucidated on thedilemmas which students face in the choice of their career day to day activities.Talking about the ways which contribute towards mental health, she exhorted thestudents to recognize their mental stressors, involve in self reflection, practice deepbreathing exercises, meditation and yogic aasans. She taught about the Do’s andDon’ts of communication skills and advised how to cultivate a pleasingpersonality.The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma thanked Dr. Rati to illuminateaudience about the tenets of personality development andeffective communicationskills, He also appreciated the efforts of the Student Welfare, NSS and theDepartment of Computer Science for organizing this lecture. The stage was conducted meticulously by Prof. Amit Singla. The Vote ofThanks was extended by Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla. He thanked the esteemedguest for giving useful tips and suggesting mental exercises. Dr. Neetu Purohit andProf. Neha Sharma were also present during the lecture.

Seminar-cum-Workshop on “Web Designing”
A Seminar-cum-Workshop was organised in the Computer science department, DAV College bathinda on 28th September 2022 on the topic: “Web Designing”.
It was presented by Dr. Pawan Kumar for BCA and PGDCA students.This program provided an opportunity for the students to gain knowledge in understanding the principles of creating an effective web page, architecture and the language of the web: HTML and CSS. Towards the end of the session, he interacted with students and cleared their doubts and queries. Around 135 students attended this workshop.

Workshop on “Coding and Decoding”
A workshop on “Coding and decoding” was conducted on 22nd September 2022 by Dept. of Computer Science in Computer Lab-I,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Anuja Puri for the BCA and PGDCA students. The workshop aimed at enhancing the Coding skills of the students. During the course of workshop, the students were given an open platform to pose queries regarding future career prospects related to the type of coding. Around 48 students attended this workshop.

A Seminar on “Introduction to programming languages” was held on 21st September 2022 in Dept. of Computer Science ,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Shishpal Jindal , for the BCA and PGDCA students. Various topics including the basics of the language were covered . The seminar ended with the knowledge on the Programming language which would be helpful to the students in the coming semesters and during placements. Around 143 students attended this workshop.

A Seminar on “Fundamentals of Information Technology ” was held on 20th September 2022 in Dept. of Computer Science ,D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Vandana Jindal, HoD (Dept of Computer Science). Around 120 students of BCA, DCA and PGDCA classes attended this seminar. Induction Program
The Department of Computer Science held an induction programme for the new entrants on 9th September 2022, in the seminar hall to acclimatize first-year students to the academic environment in the college.
Dr. Vandana Jindal (HOD), Department of Computer Science, oriented more than 150 first year students from different courses: BCA ,PGDCA and DCA to the academic environment in the campus through lecture-cum-presentation session on socializing with the faculty, taking part in curricular, co-curricular activities, understanding the governing practices of the college administration etc.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma exhorted the students to value education, etiquette and manners and focus on self-improvement and to actively participate in various activities organised in the college.

Coding Competition
Coding Competition was organized by Department of Computer Science in Computer Lab-I on 31.05.2022 Aim of the competition was to enhance problem-solving skills, develop team player skills and also to encourage students to write cleaner and better code. Competition has two rounds, in which Eight teams participated in forts round and Five teams were taken upto the next level. The Faculty members who were present during the competition were Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Shishpal Jindal,Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil and Dr. Rishm.

Mock Interview Workshop
A mock interview session was conducted on 30th MAY 2022 by the Department of Computer Science in the computer lab-II with the goal of informing students about effective techniques for appearing in an interview. Students were divided into groups by different teachers, and respective groups of teachers were made: Group1 Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof Anuja Puri Group2 Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Shishpal Jindal Group3 Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar and Group 4 Prof. Ramil, Dr. Rishm. The main aim of all the group’s mentors was to inform students about various job interview setting and how to adopt themselves to it and to prepare their response. As many as 50 students participated in the session and mock interview were conducted with all of them.

Seminar on “Machine Learning and a systematic review for cancer prognosis and prediction using machine Learning Techniques”
A Seminar on “Machine Learning and a systematic review for cancer prognosis and prediction using machine learning techniques” was conducted on 19th April 2022 by Dept. of Computer Science, D.A.V College, Bathinda. The Seminar was presented by Dr. Rishm, Assistant Prof. Dept of Computer Science, D.A.V College, Bathinda. The students from BCA, PGDCA, BA and B.SC attended the same and they have learnt how machine learning is the force behind many modern technological comforts that are now part of our day to day lives. National Conference on “Computational Techniques And Mathematical Modelling” at DAV College Bathinda
The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics of D.A.V College, Bathinda organised a SERB-DST Sponsored National Conference on “Computational Techniques And Mathematical Modelling” on 12th March, 2022. The conference commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by DAV anthem. An abstract book was also released on the occasion. Around 135 delegates from various institutions participated in this conference. Webinar on “Stress Management during Covid Times”
Since the start of pandemic, we have gone through multiple waves which have restricted our normal lifestyle imposed by several lockdowns and the other preventing measures. With the emergence of new variant omicron, we are seeing the number of cases is again on rise so keeping the mental well being and importance of stress management the PG Department of Computer Science and IQAC Department of DAV College Bathinda organized a webinar on the topic “Stress Management during Covid times” on 17th January 2022. IQAC Incharge Dr. Pawan Kumar and Dr. Rishm from PG Department of Computer Science welcomed the esteemed Guest Dr. Jiwan Jyoti Maini.Dr. Jiwan Jyoti Maini introduced students with the ways to cope with stress in a healthy way that will make you more resilient. Student Enrichment Programmes :-
- The Department of Computer Science of DAV College Bathinda conducted a webinar on “Leveraging Technology to Combat Effects of COVID-19” on June 25, 2020. The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Anju Sharma, In-charge, Punjab State Aeronautics Engineering College, Patiala. The resource person was extended a warm welcome by the Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg.
- Extension Lecture on Python, Java Script and J Query was delivered by Mr. Ashok Khaira, HR Manager, Softwiz Pvt. Ltd. on 15th Feb., 2019 to give knowledge on the various programming languages used in Software Industries.


- Live Telecast of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0 2019 was organized for the students in the college premises. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with around 2,000 students at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium on Tuesday, 29th Jan., 2019. The whole programme was shown to the students (live) in the computer lab.


- With the aim to help students to develop their mental abilities, a lecture on “Vedic Mathematics” has been conducted by Info Maths on 4th Oct.,2018.

- A Quiz Competition was organized by PG department of Computer Science on 31st Mar, 2017. 10 Students were short listed for second round. First and Second winners given prize money of Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1000/- as announced.
