Department of Mathematics

The Department was established in 1969. The department has competent faculties with wide knowledge in Pure and Applied Mathematics. It offers opportunities for education in wide spectrum of area in mathematics such as Algebra and Analysis, Topology and Operation Research.

The graduates from the department will have distinguished careers in Science and Engineering. The alumni of the department are placed at respectable positions.

Prof. G.D. Doda (15-07-70 to 29-02-2004) and Prof. S.L. Aggarwal (05-07-69 to 31-08-2005) have served the college.

Post-Graduate was started in 2010 by the department of Mathematics. The department produced some brilliant students who got various positions and qualified CSIR-NET.

Activities

  • “Students Society for Higher Mathematics” has been constituted to enrich the students to acquire knowledge and understanding of Pure Mathematics covering Analysis, Algebra and ability to apply this knowledge in other fields.
  • The society has organized various activities like celebrating Pie day, Teacher’s Day, Extension Lectures, Quiz Competitions and various Educational Tours.
  • Students of society also participate in Yoga Day, NSS Camps and Sports Meet.

DAV College Bathinda organises a Guest Lecture in the series of events observing National Mathematics Day.

Post Graduate Department of Mathematics of DAV College Bathinda in association with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, National Council for Science and Technology Communication and Department of Science and Technology Government of India organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Numerical Analysis for Differential Equations’ by Dr. Shelly Arora, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Punjabi University Patiala. The intention behind organising this Expert lecture by the eminent and scholarly Academician was to intensify the interest of the learners in the conceptual, scientific and theoretical aspects of mathematics.

Dr. Shelley Arora detailed about the Solution of Ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations, using different numerical methods such as Picard’s method, Euler’s method, R.K. Method and possible errors during the application of these methods. Being an alumnus of DAV College Bathinda she was also reminiscent of her golden tenure spent in the classrooms of her alma mater which further added to the motivational level of the students listening to her. 105 students of M.Sc, B.Sc and B.A. Department of Mathematics keenly listened to the lecture and raised their doubtful queries time to time. The event was coordinated by Prof. Munish Kumar.

The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the overwhelming participation of the students. He applauded the efforts of the Prof. Atul Singla, Head, Department of Mathematics, Prof. Munish Kumar, Convener of the event, Prof. Amit Sharma, Prof. Ramandeep Kohli and Prof. Kamal Kaur for organising such an informative, illustrative and illuminating lecture.

DAV College Bathinda organises Poster Making Competition to celebrate National Mathematics Day. (14 march 2024)

Faculty of Mathematics of DAV College Bathinda in association with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, National Council for Science and Technology Communication and Department of Science and Technology Government of India organised a Poster Making Competition on the eve of Pie Day. The objective of organising this competition was to locate the unrevealed intellectual artistic traits amongst the learners of mathematics and to exhibit the engrossing and exhilarating concepts of mathematics in a simplified, sophisticated and embellished manner.

The event was coordinated by Prof. Munish Kumar. As many as 30 posters by the students of M.Sc., B.Sc. and B.A. were exhibited gracefully in the corridors of the Department of Mathematics. The students and the faculty members admired the conceptual display and raised inquiries for better understanding. The first position amongst the participants of M.Sc. was achieved by Dimple and second prize is bagged by Rakesh. In the Group of B.Sc. the first prize was achieved by Kasish and second by Akansha and in the group of B.A. , Sonia received the first and Mohit gained the second prize.

The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the overwhelming participation of the students.The participants were encouraged by Registrar Dr.Satish Grover.He applauded the efforts of the Prof. Atul Singla, Head, Department of Mathematics, Prof. Munish Kumar, Convener of the event, Prof. Amit Sharma, Prof. Ramandeep Kohli and Prof. Kamal Kaur for arranging such a presentable and informative show.

DAV College Bathinda M.Sc. Mathematics Students Perform Well in Examinations (2 Sep., 2023)

The students of M.Sc. Mathematics (Sem I) of DAV College Bathinda performed well in Punjabi University Patiala examinations. The first three positions were secured by Dimple, Priyanka Rani and Neha Rani respectively.

The students expressed gratitude to the dedicated and committed faculty of the college for helping them at every juncture.

The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma blessed and congratulated the students. He stated that perseverance and consistency are the keys to success. One should give his utmost to achieve the best results. He appluaded the Head, Department of Mathematics Prof. Atul Singla and the faculty members Prof. Munish Kumar, Prof. Priya Singla, Prof. Amit Sharma and Prof. Ramandeep Singh for their dedicated efforts.

PG Department of Mathematics, DAV College Bathinda Organises Guest Lecture on the Occasion of National Mathematics Day (21 March 2023)

The Post Graduate Department of Mathematics of DAV College Bathinda organised a Guest Lecture on the occasion of National Mathematics Day on March 21, 2023. The Guest Lecture was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, NCSTS and DST. The resource person Dr. Payal Singla, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, GN College, Killianwali, delivered the lecture on “Importance of Vedic Mathematics”. The resource person was welcomed by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Mathematics Prof. Atul Singla and Dr. Vandana Jindal (HoD Computer Science).

Around 150 participants attended this guest lecture.

The Head, Department of Mathematics Prof. Atul Singla extended the vote of thanks to the resource person, the participants from other institutions and the members of the Department of Mathematics for making this event a success.

The occasion was graced by the presence Dr. Amar Santosh, Dr. Ranjeet Singh and Prof. Ramil Gupta.

National Mathematics Day Celebrated at DAV College Bathinda (14 FeB 2023)

The Post Graduate Department of Mathematics, DAV College Bathinda observed National Mathematics Day. On this occasion a quiz competition was organized. It was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh NCSTC and DST. The competition witnessed the participation of school students. The Head, Department of Mathematics Prof. Atul Singla and Registrar, Dr. Satish Grover welcomed the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, teachers and students from various schools.

After clearing the five rounds of the competition, S.S.D Motiram School was declared the winner and Arya Girls Sen. Sec. School was the runner up team. S.S.D. Sen. Sec. School and S.S.D. Public School were awarded the participation certificates.

Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma congratulated the participants and the winning teams. He expressed immense happiness over witnessing the enthusiasm of the participants and their excitement at exchanging their views with the college students. Dr. Sharma stated that such events enhance the general awareness of the students, sharpen their intellect and boosts their self -confidence. He also appreciated the efforts of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics, namely, Prof. Atul Singla, Prof. Munish Kumar, Prof. Priya Singla, Prof. Amit Sharma and Prof. Ramandeep Kohli.

The stage was conducted by Prof. Ramandeep Kohli. Prof. Atul Singla extended the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh NCSTC and DST for providing financial assistance.

Puneet Kumar of DAV College Bathinda Scores 9.50 CGPA in University Examinations

It was a moment of great jubilation for DAV College Bathinda to witness Puneet Kumar of M.Sc. (II) Mathematics score 9.50 CGPA in Punjabi University Patiala Examinations.

Puneet Kumar expressed gratitude to the dedicated and committed faculty of the college for helping him attain a remarkable position. He in an overwhelming tone, thanked his parents and the Almighty profusely for supporting him at every juncture.

National Conference on “Computational Techniques And Mathematical Modelling” at DAV College Bathinda

The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics of D.A.V College, Bathinda organised a SERB-DST Sponsored National Conference on “Computational Techniques And Mathematical Modelling” on 12th March, 2022. The conference commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by DAV anthem. An abstract book was also released on the occasion. Around 135 delegates from various institutions participated in this conference.

The guests Prof.(Dr.) Gurpreet Singh Lehal (Dean, College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala), Dr. Anil Kumar Verma (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Thapar University,Patiala), Prof. (Dr.) Geeta Sikka (Department of computer science and Engineering, NIT, Jalandhar) and Prof. (Dr. ) Manish Jindal (Panjab University Regional centre Muktsar), Dr. Sanjeev Sharma (Director, Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology (MIMIT), Malout, were accorded a warm welcome by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Dr. Vandana Jindal (Head, Department of Computer Science) and Prof. Atul Singla (Head, Department of Mathematics).

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Vandana Jindal. The stage was coordinated by Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Ramil Gupta, Dr. Rishm and Prof. Rajveer.

The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma in his welcome address conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries for accepting the invitation and presiding over the conference. He stated that Computational techniques, which are fast, easier, reliable and efficient way of solving mathematical, scientific, engineering, geometrical, geographical and statistical problems are not only being used by scientists in their research work but also by researchers in other disciplines.

Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal delivered a lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact in Our Daily Lives”. In his address he talked about how artificial intelligence has made an entry into our day-to-day activities such as Social media, Digital Assistants, Self-Driving And Parking Vehicles, Email communications, Web searching, Stores and services and Offline experiences.

Dr. Anil Kumar Verma in his lecture on “Smart World” talked about the smart world, starting with smart things such as smart objects, like, smart egg tray, smart tooth brush, etc. , smart cities, smart manufacture and smart systems and how this smart world is eventually going to be the next important stage in human history. He also elucidated on sensor and connectivity.

The technical session was chaired by Dr. Geeta Sikka. She delivered a lecture on “Unravelling Data Science”. She elucidated on the Data Science Process, frameworks for conducting Data Analysis, applications of data science and the need for data science.

Dr. Manish Jindal delivered a lecture on CAPTCHA. He talked about Twisted Turing Test, a method of enquiry used by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify whether the respondent is a machine or human.

Dr. Sanjeev Sharma in the valedictory session congratulated the college and the departments for successfully organising this national level conference. He also congratulated the delegates for showing their active participation in this event.Certificates were awarded to the participants during the valedictory session.
Poster presentation witnessed the ingenuity of the participants. Around 113 posters were presented by the participants. The judges for the event are Prof. (Dr. ) Manish Jindal (Panjab University Regional centre Muktsar) and dr munish Jindal (Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda.

Prof. Atul Singla on behalf of the college extended a formal vote of thanks to the distinguished guests, the participants and the audience for the brain storming session. PG Department of Mathematics of DAV College Bathinda Organizes Webinar on the Occasion of National Mathematics Day

The Post Graduate Department of Mathematics of DAV College Bathinda Organised a webinar on the occasion of National Mathematics Day on February 18, 2022. The webinar was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, NCSTS and DST. The resource person Dr. Mukesh Grover, President Department of Department of Mathematics, Punjab Institute of Technology, MRSPTU, Rajpura, delivered the lecture on “Application of Numerical methods”. The post graduate department of Mathematics Celebrated teacher is day 2019. The students of M.Sc. Mathematics welcomed Prof. Atul Singla (H.O.D) with bouquet. The Celebration began with welcome song. Prof Atul Singla (H.O.D) gave his views about Dr. Radhakrishnan and his mind flex contribution to the field of education. The singing performance and fun games remained the highlights of this. event. The an Essay Writing Competition on March, 2019 at 10:00 Am the topic of essay was “Importance of Mathematics In Real life”. A total of “Eighteen Students Participated in this Competition This Competition was of hour at an duration. The Result was declared 2:30 pm by Prof. Atul singla (HOD ), Mr. Sandeep Singh, The Student of MSC-I declared as winner of the Competition Prof Atul Single congratulate the winner for his best attempt. In the End Prof. Atul singla appricated all the Participants.(15.03.2019)

One day trip was organised by department of Mathematics for the students of on M.Sc. Mathematics. Jan 16, 2019. A total of 20 students along with two staff members went for this trip. The destination covered was Fun cinema and Food point, Mittal Mall. In Fun cinema students enjoyed the movie, “URI- the Surgical Strike from 10am to 12:30pm. After watching the movie they enjoyed food at Food point of Mittal Mall. Then they came a back by our hired vehicle. The trip ended with lot of fun and happiness. (16.01.2019)

1  The Student Welfare Association in collaboration with Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics organised lectures on “How to Sharpen Your Memory” by Prof. Kunwer Rajeev and “Communication Skills” by Prof. Sharad Manocha on 24 oct.,2018. 2 A three days tour was organised by PG department for the Students of M.Sc Mathematics on 21 Mar.,2016. The destination covered during tour were city palace, jantar mantar, birla mander, hawa mehal and Jaipur.

3 A three days tour was organised by PG department for the Students of M.Sc Mathematics on 12 Mar.,2015. The destination covered during tour were Anadpur sahib, Virasat-E-Khalsa and Naina Devi.
