The Department of Commerce & Management is one of the Pioneer Departments of the College. The department has produced countless CAs, MBAs, Lawyers, Industrial & Business Magnets of National & International repute.

BBA was introduced in year 1999-2000 and M.Com in year 2012-2013. The Department has added a new feather in its Cap by adding B.Com (Honours) in the year 2017-2018.

At present department has a strength of about 700 students in B.Com, B.Com (Honours) and BBA . More than 60 students are pursuing M.Com.

“ORIENTATION & WELCOME PARTY” DAV College Bathinda Welcomes New Entrants. (24/9/2024)

The P.G. Department Commerce and Management of DAV College Bathinda organized an orientation program and welcome party for first-year students of B.Com, BBA and M.COM classes, drawing around 300 enthusiastic youngsters. The event aimed to familiarize newcomers with the academic environment, faculty, and facilities of the College.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by HOD and Vice Principal, Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, followed by the floral welcome to Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover and Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh by the department faculty.
Prof. Vikas Katia, senior faculty of Commerce Department showcased the achievements of the Department and familiarized students with various courses and their future scope. Key highlights of the orientation program included overview of course curriculum and academic expectations, introductions to college facilities, clubs, and societies and guidance on career opportunities and industrial trends.
Addressing the students, Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of holistic education and encouraged students to actively participate in extracurricular activities.
Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, HOD congratulated the organising team, Dr. Kusum Gupta, Prof. Monika Bhatia, Prof. Seema Rani, Prof. Amit Singla and Prof. Neha Garg for portraying such a dynamic cultural event that the attendees were treated to captivating performances from students, including traditional dances, live music, and poetry recitals.
Prof. Sonia Mangla, Prof. Priyanka, Prof. Rishav Gupta, Dr. Sonika Aggarwal Garg, Prof. Kritika Verma, Prof. Jyoti Goyal, Prof. Poonam, Mrs. Jyoti (Computer) and Ms. Karamjeet Kaur graced the occasion and motivated the participation of the young enthusiasts.

DAV College Bathinda organises a Motivational Lecture on ‘Goal of Life’.

Post Graduation Department of Commerce and Management, Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Institute’s Innovation Council of DAV College Bathinda organise a motivational lecture on the topic,’ Goal of Life’. The Resource Person for the lecture was Sadhvi Rajwinder Bharati.
The Principal of the college Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretory Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Coordinator IQAC Dr. Pawan Kumar, Coordinator IIC Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof. Vikas Katia and Dr. Kusum Gupta felicitated the eminent guest. Prof. Vikas Katia welcomed the assembled listeners. Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg introduced the scholarly speaker to the audience.
The Influential talk by Sadhvi Rajwinder Bharati included discussion about the significance of setting a goal of life which ought to be followed by a visionary plan, improved level of concentration, required hard work and complete commitment. Also she mentioned about significance and the need of adhering to the moral values in order to be a valuable social being. While citing multiple instances, she spoke about the role ethics play in human life. Students listened patiently to the noteworthy lecture of eminence.

DAV Students of B.Com Hons. (Sem-V) Excel in University Examinations.

(13 june 2024)

DAV College Bathinda’s B.Com Hons. (Sem-V) students attained noteworthy results in the Punjabi University Patiala Examinations. Kunjal Jain stood first, Ganesh Goyal stood second and Akshdeep Kaur stood third in College.
The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma congratulated the students and appreciated them for their consistent efforts. He stated that the combined efforts of the students, teachers and the administration lead the institution to glory. He appreciated the Head, Department of Commerce Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Prof. Vikas Katia, Dr. Kusum Gupta, Prof. Monika Bhatia, Prof. Amit Singla, Prof. Seema Rani, Prof. Neha Garg and the other faculty members of the department for guiding and motivating the students.

Students of Department of Commerce and Management of DAV College bid farewell to their seniors. Reminiscing about the days spent in college, first and second year students bid an emotional yet fun filled farewell to the final year students. All the students enthusiastically participated in an event full of fun, music and games. Students made the best of the opportunity to showcase their unique talents such as singing, dancing, poetry. A personality pageant was organized for outgoing students, which included ramp walk followed by talent show and questionnaire round. Dr. Neetu Purohit and Dr. Monika Ghulla judged the Talent Show.Manik Jindal of B.Com (Hons.) and Rishm of B.Com(Hons.) were crowned Mr. and Miss Farewell respectively. Whereas Ishan and Arzoo Kathuria were crowned Mr. Perfect and Miss Perfect. Himanshu Bansal was tagged as Mr. Hulk and Devinder Sharma as Ms. Barbie. Bhavneet Sharma was declared Mr. Handsome and Samridhi Mandyal as Ms. Gorgeous. The celebration also included the Ramp walk of the teaching faculty.
The Principal of college, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, congratulated the winners. Besides congratulating the students for organizing a wonderful event, he reminded them to up for the upcoming exams and perform their best. He also motivated the outgoing students to do well in life and bring laurels to their parents and the institution. Head Department of Commerce Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg wished luck to the outgoing students and motivated them to work hard to achieve zenith heights. Expert Talk on the topic ‘Mindful Communication : Being Present’ organised by Post Graduate Department of Commerce at DAV College Bathinda.

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of DAV College, Bathinda organized an Expert Talk on the topic ‘Mindful Communication: Being Present’ on 9 April, 2024 by Dr. Dhiraj Sharma, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala.
The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Prof. Vikas Katia and Dr. Kusum Gupta warmly felicitated the guests. Dr. Dhiraj Sharma dwelled deep on the significance of non-verbal communication in one’s life. With the help of illustrative images, he highlighted that body gestures are of prime importance. He asserted that listening and observing are equally important traits of effective communication.
Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg formally introduced the guest speaker. Around 80 students enthusiastically listened to the lecture and were motivated valuably. The stage was conducted by Prof. Neha Garg.

Quiz Competition Organised by PG Department of Commerce at DAV College Bathinda.

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of DAV College, Bathinda organized Quiz Competition on March 28, 2024. A preliminary written quiz was conducted in which around 70 students participated. Out of these 12 students were selected. Four teams comprising of three students in each took part in the competition. The participants of the winning team were Devinder Sharma (M.Com II), Ramesh Kumar (M.Com – II) and Keshav Kumar (B.Com- III). The runners up team comprised of Hemlata Soni (M.Com- II), Ansh Munjal (B.Com (H)- II) and Gaurav Sharma (B.Com II).
Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg extended the official welcome and wished luck to the participants. He set the stage by motivating the student to participate vigorously in all the activities organized by the department. The Quiz Master Professor Vikas Katia asked questions based on current affairs, commerce, Sports and general awareness from the quiz participants. The stage was conducted by Prof. Neha Garg.
The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma congratulated the winners. He stated that to survive in a globally competitive world, one should keep himself abreast and updated about the latest in the world. He further added that the quiz competition gave students a platform to learn about the latest and the novel in the varied upcoming fields and motivated the students to participate enthusiastically in the various activities organized in the college. The Post Graduate Department Commerce of DAV College Bathinda organised an Industrial Visit

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, DAV College Bathinda organized a one-day industrial visit to Mega Food Park, Punjab Agro Industries Corp. Ltd., Ludhiana (Punjab). A group of 40 students of B.B.A. and B.Com (Hons.) were accompanied by Prof. Vikas Katia, Dr. Kusum Gupta, Prof. Monika Bhatia and Prof. Neha Garg.
Mr. H.K. Paul, GM, Mega Food Park received the students and the faculty members cordially. The food park is spread over 100 acres of land. The purpose of arranging for this mega park was to assist the private food processing businesses to grow through facilities like cold storage warehouse, liquid and solid waste management plants and other ancillary services.
The AGM of Food Park, Mr. Siddharth gave a brief description of the facility and accompanied the students to three units. At first the students visited the cold storage plant, where the students had an interactive session regarding the working of the cold storage warehouse and associated costs and revenue. Second visit was to the Corn Silage plant, where the concerned manager addressed all the queries of the students. Final visit was made to the Banana Ripening Plant, where the students were acquainted with the information that such a plant can be set-up as a small scale unit with minimum capital.
The Principal of the College, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the efforts of the Head, Department of Commerce Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg and the faculty members in organizing this industrial visit, which familiarized the students with the production process and management, marketing and human resource management practices in the food processing industry.

DAV College Bathinda organizes a Lecture on Stress Management. (27 Sep., 2023)

The Department of Commerce in association with IQAC and IIC set for an Extension Lecture on ‘Stress Management’ by an eminent orator E.V. Gireesh; a dynamic trainer and counsellor with an experience of more than 16 years. The Principal of the College, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma felicitated the honourable Guest along with Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Head, Department of Commerce, Dr. Satish Grover Registrar, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Pawan Kumar, IIC Coordinator Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof. Vikas Katia and Dr. Kusum Gupta.

Prof. Neha Garg managed the stage and invited Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg to introduce the speaker of the day. The esteemed speaker deliberated on the factors causing stress and put forward the remedies to tackle stress manually and therapeutically. He elaborated on the idea to look for the light within and battle against all the psychological obstructions. The audience witnessed a Stress free environment in the Hall and carried away the learnings thoughtfully. The Principal of the College had all the words of appreciation for the Department for putting all their dedicated efforts in arranging for this day.

Prof. Vikas Katia bestowed the Thanks Giving Note. At the end of the event Prof.Parveen Kumar Garg appreciated the efforts made by Prof. Monika, Prof. Amit Singla, Prof. Seema, Prof. Nidhi, Prof. Jyoti, Prof. Manisha, Prof. Dhriti for making this event a possible success. Induction Programme for Commerce Students at DAV College Bathinda (30 Aug 2023)

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management, DAV College Bathinda, organized an Induction Programme for the students of undergraduate classes, namely, B.Com, B.Com (Hons.) and BBA. More than 200 students participated in the programme.

Principal, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma welcomed the students to the college. He informed them about the growth trajectory of the collegesince its inception in 1969. He acquainted them with the rules and regulations of the college, also uploaded on the website. He further stated that the college constantly supports the students and works towards their holistic development. For this purpose different units of the college like Physical Education, Youth Welfare, NCC, NSS and help the students identify their potential and gain confidence. Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma exhorted the students to maintain discipline in their lives as well as on the campus, which is the key to success.

Head, Department of Commerce Prof. Parveen Kumar Gargintroduced the students to the faculty of the department and briefed them about the various activities organized by the department. He also informed them about the Departmental Library and stated that the students can always come to the faculty members for redressal of their grievances.
Prof. Vikas Katia delivered a motivating lecture, making the young students aware of their capabilities and acumen. Dr. Kusum Gupta made the students conversant with the various career options after completing their graduation in commerce.

BBA Girls of DAV College Bathinda Shine in Punjabi University Patiala Examinations. (23 Aug., 2023)

BBA Sem III students of D.A.V. College Bathinda attained excellent results in Punjabi University Patiala Examinations. Harsharan Kaur stood first by scoring 95%, Manpreet Kaur secured second position by scoring 93% and Ramandeep Kaur stood third by scoring 91%.

The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma congratulated and blessed the students for their meritorious performance in the university examinations. He stated that the college always works towards the upliftment of the girls and it gives him extreme pleasure to witness the girls making the optimal use of their potential. DAV College Bathinda students of B.Com (Sem V) attained noteworthy results in the Punjabi University Patiala Examinations. Amanjot Kaur and Lovish Singla stood first by scoring 76.2%, and Raghav Goyal scored 75.7% and stood second.

Waqt-e-Rukhsat-2023 Organized by Post Graduate Department of Commerce, DAV College Bathinda (16 May 2023)

The Postgraduate Department of Commerce organised a farewell party Waqt-e-Rukhsat-2023 for the outgoing B.Com students. Utmost enthusiasm and fervor pervaded the atmosphere and the students added a sparkle to the programme by walking on the ramp, breathtaking performances, melodious songs, etc. The students even conferred endearing titles on their seniors like those of Mr.& Ms. Perfect, Mr. & Ms. Studious, Miss Punjaban, Mr. Gabru, Miss Gorgeous, Mr. Gorgeous, Miss Diva, etc. Both the students and the faculty participated eagerly in many exciting games. The Miss Farewell title was conferred on Pratibha V. and Mr. Farewell on Chaitanya. Prof. Karampal Kaur and Prof. Neha Sharma were the judges on the occasion. The stage was hosted by Pratibha, Rishu, Ishaa, Tipu and Pratibha.

Principal Dr. Rajeev Kr. Sharma blessed the students for their bright future and a successful life ahead. He advised them to make the best use of the opportunities available and assured them that the college will always render support and guidance to its students.
The Vice Principal and Head, Department of Commerce Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg wished good luck to the students in all their efforts. He stated that consistent efforts and perseverance are the tenets of success.

Post Graduate Department of Commerce, DAV College Bathinda Organises Quiz Competition (11 May 2023)

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, DAV College, Bathinda organized a Quiz Competition on May 11, 2023. A preliminary written quiz was conducted in which as many as 80 students participated. Out of these 15 students were selected. 5 teams comprising of 3 students in each took part in the competition. The participants of the winning team were Kggsri (BBA-I), Akash (B.Com III) and Harman (M.Com I). The runners up team comprised of Devinder Sharma (M.Com I), Ishan (B.Com II) and Gaurav (B.Com I).

The Quiz Master Prof. Vikas Katia asked questions from the participants, based on current affairs, commerce, sports and general awareness.

DAV College Bathinda Organises Workshop on “GST – A Practical Approach to Indirect Taxes” (28 March 2023)

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, DAV College Bathinda organized a workshop on “GST- A Practical Approach to Indirect Taxes” on March 28, 2023. The workshop was conducted by CA Amit Bansal (GST faculty of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi) on the topic “GST – A Practical Approach to Indirect Taxes”

CA Amit Bansal explained about the important concepts like types of GST, Input Tax Credit, GST returns, etc. Citing some practical examples from the field of commerce, he told how GST has led to reduction of cost of goods and services for the final consumers. In an interactive session with the resource person students posed numerous questions related to Commerce & Trade and enhanced their knowledge repositories.

Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma thanked CA Amit Bansal for enlightening the students on the current pertinent topic of GST. He also expressed immense happiness at witnessing an alumnus like CA Amit Bansal so successful in his career and imparting valuable insights to the younger generation. DAV College Bathinda Organises lecture on “JOSH-Journey of Success Highway” (28 Feb 2028)

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce& Management, DAV College Bathinda organized a guest lecture on February 28, 2023. The lecture was delivered by Sh. Sony Goyal (IIM Ahmedabad, Director, My Career) on the topic “JOSH-Journey of Success Highway”.

Sh. Sony Goyal gave pertinent tips on how to prepare for CAT Exam and elucidated on various management tips on the preparation involved and attempting the paper. He said that the foremost thing was to have an aim in life and work towards it with unflinching steadfastness. He motivated the students to give their 100% in seeking admissions in the golden gates of success, the IIMs and the other top B schools.

Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma thanked Sh. Sony Goyal for enlightening the students on how to lead a purposeful life and move strategically towards it. He further stated that at this juncture of life, students have to make wise choices and decisions.

Ms.AnkitaAggarwal (Employment Generation, Skill Development &Training Officer), Mr.Tirthpal Singh (Deputy CEO) and Mr. Vishal Chawla (Career Counsellor) interacted with the students and stated that being a registered applicant, the candidate is eligible for sponsorship for trainings / coaching under different Govt. schemes.Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the effortsCareer Counselling and Placement Cell team for their dedicated efforts.

Other Information: Students of second year of B.Com regular and honors bade farewell to their
seniors. A lively and interactive show comprising cultural performances and fun games was put up
by the students. The entire faculty of the department was also present. Prof. Sukhdeep Kaur Mahal
and Dr. Kusum Gupta were judges for the event.

Title of Event: Quiz Competition
Organising Department: P. G. Department of Commerce and Management
Achievements: 1st – Ishu (B.Com (Hons.) II), Stuti (B.Com (Hons.) II) and Tishant (B.Com II).
2nd – Piyush (B.Com III), Keshav (B.Com I) and Prince (B.Com III).
Other Information: A preliminary written quiz was conducted in which around 100 students
participated. Out of these 12 students were selected. Four teams of three students each took part in
the competition. The Quiz Master Professor Vikas Katia asked questions based on current affairs,
commerce and general awareness from the quiz participants. The official welcome was extended by
Dr. Kusum Gupta and the stage was conducted by Prof. Neha Garg. A formal vote of thanks was
extended by Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg.

Other Information: Four teams participated in the AD- MAD show, portraying their creativity and
raising awareness through ads like Ecoscooty, Vision Glasses, Life Insurance and Potali. The
AD-MAD Show was judged by Dr. Neetu Purohit, Prof. Harpreet Kaur Brar and Dr. Ranjeet Singh.

Title of Event: Trip to Manali, Shri Manikaran Sahib and Kasol

Achievements: Gave students (B.Com & M.Com0 and faculty an opportunity to study the culture
and heritage of these historical and holy sites and at the same time indulge into recreational activities
Other Information: Places visited – to Manali, Manikaran and Kasol. Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla,
Mr. Gurdeep Singh, Ms. Sonia Mangla and Ms. Alpana accompanied the students on the trip.

Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management, D.A.V. College, Bathinda
Due to Covid-19 no activity was conducted in the session 2020-21

  • Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management organized an educational tour from February 22, 2020 to February 24, 2020 to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. 48 students of the department explored and gained an insight into the historical and cultural heritage of India.
  • The Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management organized a one-day trip to Wonderland in Jalandhar for the students on 09 Oct.,2019.
   
  • The Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management of DAV College Bathinda organised an extension lecture on the topic “Digital Business Transformations & Evolving Paradigms” by Dr. Vikas Deep, USBS, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda on 18 Oct., 2019.

The department in association with ICAI organized a national seminar on the topic “GST- A Beacon of Hope for Indians: Issues and Challenges” on 09-04-2018. Dr. J.S. Brar (DPI Colleges, Punjab) was the chief guest of the event.

2 Department in collaboration with IQAC organized an extension lecture on the topic “Gender Disparity in Education and Workplace”. Dr. Tarun Arora, HOD Law Department, Central University of Punjab delivered this lecture on 31-10-2017.

                  

3 An extension lecture on the topic “Life at B-School” was organized on 18-08-2017. Dr. Akash Sharma, trainer from IIM Banglore was the keynote speaker.

              

4 The department organized an extension lecture on topic “Personality Development and Time Management” by Dr. Bhavdeep Singh Tanghi, HOD PG studies, Regional Centre Punjabi University, Bathinda on 27-04-2017.

                           

5 Silver Jubilee Alumni Function of 1985-89 commerce batch was organized on 05-03-2017.

     

Educational Tours/Trips :

1 Five-days Educational trip to Manali, Manikaran for students of B.Com III and M.Com was organized from 19-03-2017 to 23-03-2017. 

                    

2 One-day Educational trip to Amritsar on 15-032017 was organized for students of B.Com II.

Farewell Parties:

1 The students of M.Com Ist year organized a farewell party “HASTA LA VISTA” for the students of M.Com IInd year on 30-04-2018.

2 The students of B.Com IInd year organized a farewell party for their seniors on 28-04-2018. The event was titled “Rawangi 2018”.

                      

3 A farewell party for B.Com IIIrd year was organized with the theme “KOE-BAAI-GOE-BAAI” on 29-04-2017.

           

4 The students of M.Com Ist year organized a farewell party on 25-04-2017 for M.Com IInd year students. Tanya and Maninder were elected as Ms. and Mr. Farewell.
