ASCII Club is a group of members in the PG Department of Computer Science. It has direct links with the students. For the benefit of members, the Club organizes monthly technical meetings, product presentations, exhibitions, film and video shows. Events are organized by this club.
Being closely associated with students, the Society has developed a well-established network of ‘Student Branches’ across various colleges in the vicinity.
The activities conducted for the students associated with the Society include lecture meetings, seminars, conferences, training programmes, programming contests and practical visits to installations.
Objectives/ Mission of ASCII Club
- The aim of the Society is to advance professional excellence in Information Technology (IT)

Activities 2024-25
Two-Day Workshop on Dynamic Ad-hoc Wireless Networking and Software Optimization
The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science at DAV College, Bathinda, successfully organized a two-day workshop on Dynamic Ad-hoc Wireless Networking (DAWN) and software optimization.
The two days workshop, held on 14.10.2024-15.10.2024 in Computer Lab -III aimed to enhance the technical skills of technical staff members and provide them with hands-on experience in the latest technologies.
A total of 25 participants attended the workshop, which was expertly conducted by Assistant Professor Ms. Sandhya Sharma.
The workshop’s primary objective was to familiarize technical staff with the concept of developing complex and dynamic wireless communication networks using Dynamic Ad-hoc wireless network technology.
Through this workshop, participants gained practical knowledge of the latest technologies, enabling them to deliver high-quality learning experiences to students.
The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science at DAV College, Bathinda, is committed to providing ongoing professional development opportunities for its staff, ensuring they remain updated on the latest advancements in their fields.
Two- Day Workshop on “Web Development”
A Two-Day workshop on “Web Development” was organized by Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda. The Resource Person of the workshop Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Science & Engg. Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Longowal alongwith Mr. Nilesh Kumar Research Scholar came all the way from Longowal for this workshop.
While inaugurating the workshop, Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Head of Computer Department Dr. Vandana Jindal, Conveners of the Workshop Prof. Anuja Puri & Prof. Rakesh Puri, faculty members Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar & Prof. Ramil Gupta, Dr. Rishm, Lab operators Ms. Ritika & Gurpinder Kaur were present.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Sharma welcomed the Resource Persons and asked the students to get maximum benefit from this workshop. Prof. Rajesh Batra introduced the Resource persons to the gathering.
Around 70 Students of BCA classes participated in the workshop. In the first technical session, the experts discussed about HTML with various hands on training examples of code. In the second Session, the workshop use of CSS was explained and students were told to work on various live examples of codes. Dr. Jagdeep Singh & Mr. Nilesh kept on interacting with the students during the technical sessions and also provided much needed technical guidance to run the program.
Day-Two involved of the workshop has in store two more technical sessions focusing on more advanced techniques of web development and the valedictory session on the conclusion of workshop. The technical sessions involved the detailed discussion about web development using JavaScript and sample code snippets. Resource persons Dr. Jagdeep Singh and Mr. Nilesh Kumar were helpful in sorting the doubts of the students, by reaching to their seats. Students showed keen interest in development and execution of program codes.
Students were distributed certificates for participation. Mr. Armaandeep and Ms. Ambika of BCA reviewed this two-day workshop and explained what they have learnt during the informative sessions Workshop. The guests were honoured by presenting mementos by Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, HOD Dr. Vandana Jindal, Conveners Prof. Rakesh Puri & Prof. Anuja Puri and Prof. Rajesh Batra. Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Rishm, Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Ms. Gurpreet Kaur alongwith operators Ms. Ritika & Ms. Gurpinder Kaur were also present in the function.
Prof. Rakesh Puri presented the Vote of thanks. He applauded the efforts of faculty and student council in organising this workshop. The function concluded with group photograph with all the participants, faculty members and Resource Persons. The Principal of college appreciated the dedicated efforts of the faculty members of the Department of Computer.
‘Free Diagnostic Eye Testing and Health Checkup Camp’
On September 26, 2024 NSS Department, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department, Institute’s Innovation Council and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of DAV College Bathinda organised a Free Diagnostic Eye Testing Camp and a Health Check-up Camp for staff members and students. The eye testing camp was organised in association with SD Mahabir Dal Hospital, Bathinda. Health checkup camp was organised in collaboration with Lifeline Charitable Lab, Bathinda.
The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Coordinator Institute’s Innovation Council Dr. Vandana Jindal, Coordinator Internal Quality Assurance Cell Dr. Pawan Kumar, NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Prof. Neha Garg and Dr. Monika Ghulla formally welcomed the team of SD Mahavir Dal Hospital Bathinda and Lifeline Charitable Lab Bathinda.
Dr. Sanya Garg, Eye specialist, Optical Phaco and Lasik Surgeon, Medical and Retina Specialist working in Mahabir Dal Hospital visited for all Eye related problems. Mr. Jaspal Mehta, Dr. Risham (working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer, DAV College Bathinda) and Mr. Bharat Bhushan Khushreja from the Lifeline Charitable Lab Bathinda provided their services for this medical camp at concessional rate. Around 150 students and staff members of the college availed the benefits of this camp.

“WELCOME PARTY” for New Entrants
The PG Department of computer science of DAV College Bathinda organized a comprehensive induction program for first-year students of BCA, PGDCA, DCA and MSc-IT, drawing over 300 enthusiastic youngsters. The event aimed to familiarize newcomers by such a dynamic cultural event that the attendees were treated to captivating performances from students including traditional dances, live music and poetry. All the faculty members graced the occasion and motivated the participation of the young enthusiastic.
An Induction Program “FRESH START, NEW HORIZONS” by Dept. of Computer Science for New Entrants
The Computer Department of DAV College Bathinda organized a comprehensive induction program for first-year students of BCA, PGDCA, DCA and MSc-IT, drawing over 300 enthusiastic youngsters. The event aimed to familiarize newcomers with the academic environment, faculty, and facilities of the College.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Ramil Gupta who expertly anchored the event, followed by the arrival of Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Head of the Computer Department, Dr. Vandana Jindal.
Dr. Vandana Jindal, HoD, Computer Department, showcased the achievements of the Department and familiarized students with various courses and their future scope. Key highlights of the induction program included an interactive session with faculty members, overview of course curriculum and academic expectations, introductions to college facilities, clubs, and societies and guidance on career opportunities and industrial trends.

DAV College, Bathinda Faculty Felicitated by EET CRS for Exceptional Contribution to Academics & Research
On the auspicious occasion of Teachers Day, DAV College Bathinda felt extremely honoured and overwhelmed as two of its worthy faculty members, Dr. Vandana Jindal and Dr. Vikas Duggal were felicitated by EET CRS, Research Wing for Excellence in Professional Education and Industry in the 9th South Asian Education Awards- 2024. EET CRS is a reputed organization, recognising the contribution of educational institutions, academicians and researchers and celebrating their contributions in the journey of learning. The organization known for its commitment to promoting education and social welfare, shortlisted two teachers from DAV, namely, Dr. Vandana Jindal for the “Best Faculty Award” and Dr. Vikas Duggal for the “Best Young Scientist Award”.
Dr. Vandana Jindal has been dedicatedly serving DAV for 25 years. She assumed the responsibility as the Head, Department of Computer Science in 2003. Since her joining DAV College, Bathinda, she has been assiduously mentoring the students and working for the growth of the institution. She has a rich trajectory of academic duties and research contributions to her credit.
Dr. Vikas Duggal joined the Department of Physics, DAV College, Bathinda in 2018. Since then he has been actively involved in nurturing the student community and perseveringly carrying out innovative research initiatives. Dr. Vikas Duggal has published seven books and over 35 research papers in SCI international journals. His work has garnered more than 1,100 citations, an h-index of 20, and an i10 index of 27.

Students of BCA from Dept. of Computer Science bid adieu to their Seniors
BCA-II students of Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organised Farewell Party for all outgoing classes BCA-III, MSC -IT (LET) and PGDCA. The party commenced with the welcome of the senior students. It was graced with the benign presence of Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Head, Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal and the faculty members.
The students extended a warm send off to their seniors by organizing various fun filled games and in their euphonious voices overwhelmed the gathering and brought alive the reminiscences of their college days. As a token of love and remembrance, they conferred titles to their seniors. Jaswinder Kaur won the title of “Miss Farewell 2024” and Tajinder Singh received the title of “Mr. Farewell 2024.”
The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma showered his blessings on the students and congratulated them for organizing this cultural fiesta. Wishing luck to the students in their endeavours, he stated that their Alma Mater has armed them with the requisite tools to improve their skills and instilled amongst them elevated ethics. These life skills will thus strengthen them to confidently make a foray into the competitive world. Dr. Vandana Jindal along with all the staff members wished luck to the students for brighter future ahead and also exhorted the students to value education, etiquettes and focus on self-improvement.
Workshop on Computer graphics and Web Designing
The post graduate Department of computer science, DAV College Bathinda organised a workshop on computer graphics and web designing for the students of MScIT and Bca-III in computer lab-2
The workshop was conducted by Dr rishm on 28th, Sep. 2023.
This workshop geared for anyone without any prior experience with computer graphics or coding. Word press enables to create and maintain a website. Even if you have no Web design background, the workshop aimed to create a new website for small business or blog
The main objective of the workshop was to help students to become familiar with Web designing courses that deals with the creating and maintaining of websites. Students pursuing web designing courses will equip themselves with the skills and knowledge of creating websites which are user friendly and easy to use. Web design courses involve planning, creating, and maintaining websites. Some of the topics learnt under web designing courses are basics of web designing, HTML, CSS, UX Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia technologies, and Java script. These topics discussed will help students to work in real time projects while creating websites.

7 Days Workshop on Personality Development
Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Institution Innovation Council (IIC) is organising a Seven Day workshop from October 17,2023 to October 23,2023 for the selected students of BBA, BCA, B.Com (Hons.), PGDCA.On the day of Commencement, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma encouraged the students to develop refine Personality by inculcating fine Communication Skills, a dignified level of Confidence, habit of Reading Newspaper and Effective Writing Skills. He wished luck to all the 47 participants of the workshop. The Coordinator of the Workshop, Prof. Rajesh Batra welcomed the participants and introduced all the Resource Persons. He mentioned the topics listed in this certificate course.The resource person of the workshop includes Dr. Satish Grover, Registrar, Dr. Vandana Jindal, Coordinator IIC, Prof. Pawan Kumar Coordinator IQAC, Prof. Vikas Katia, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Dr. Neetu Purohit, Prof. Neha Sharma, Prof. Heena Bindal and Mr. Vishal Chawla, who would work in collaboration to impart Motivational, Self Introduction and Introspection Skills, Leadership Qualities, Communication Skills, Attributes of Group Discussion, and tips for Resume Writing.All the participants were seen much exhilarated and excited, and were well set to imbibe the key points in their personality.Also present in the inaugural address were Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Anuja Puri, Dr. Rishm, Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Ms. Gurpreet and Ms. Sandhya.
Motivational Lecture to Join Indian Army
Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Institutions’ Innovation Council (IIC), and Placement and Counseling Cell has organized a “Motivational Lecture” for the aspiring youth of the College. Captain Shubham Thakur, 11 FOD was the featured speaker for the seminar. The Principal of the College, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar, Dr. Satish Grover, Head Department, Computer Science, and Coordinator IIC, Dr. Vandana Jindal, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Pawan Kumar, Coordinator, Placement and Counseling Cell, Prof. Meetu Wadhwa welcomed Capt. Shubham Thakur.
Capt. Shubham urged the students to join armed forces while informing the audience about the salient features of the Army. He detailed about the challenging Army Life, Professionalism, Unit ethos, Secularism and other aspects of the army. Students interacted with Capt. Shubham and raised their queries related to different branches of the armed forces. Around 150 students from BCA-I,II,III, DCA, PGDCA, MSC-IT(Lateral) listened to the engaging and informational lecture.

Workshop on Microsoft Word and Power Point Presentation
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organized a Workshop on Microsoft Word and Power Point Presentation in Computer Lab-IV on 03/10/2023.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Anuja Puri for the students of BCA-I (Sec-A)
The workshop was aimed to show how PowerPoint presentations work like slide shows. To convey a message or a story, one break it down into slides. How one can consider each slide as a blank canvas for the pictures and words that help to tell story on the other hand she discussed important benefit which is gained from using Microsoft Word, it allows the users to make different formats in accordance with the need.
She also discussed Microsoft is a graphical word processing program that users can type with. The purpose of the MS Word is to allow the users to type and save documents. Microsoft word, often called as word, carries with it a lot of benefits.
All the students actively participated in the workshop by making different slides and word documents.
Seminar on Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence are the new emerging technologies in the industry of tech-world in the context of the same, a Seminar was organised by the Post Graduate Department of Computer Sciences on 27th Sept. 2023 in Computer Lab -4. The Seminar was conducted by Dr. Shishpal Jindal , on the topic “Latest Industrial Trends in Big Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence” for the students of BCA-1
The lecture began with the introduction to the basic concepts of DBMS, AI, Machine Learning, Image Processing, and Cloud Computing that are essential for a data analyst. He also thoroughly informed students about what the IT industry expected today from an IT Expert, especially a Data Analyst. During the session, he also stated and expressed how to create careers in those fields and how to gain advantage in the current scenario by using various trajectories. The event proved to be beneficial to all the students in terms of their careers in the long run, as they learned about AI & Big Data Analytics in detail.
Later, a query session took place in the end as a conclusion of the session, wherein students cleared all their doubts.
Seminar on Object Oriented Programming and implication of concepts
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organized a Seminar on Object Oriented Programming and implication of concepts for the students of BCA II in Computer Lab- II on 25- Sep -2023
The seminar was conducted by Prof. Rakesh Puri.
The Seminar on object oriented programming provides conceptual approach.
He aimed to discuss all the fundamentals of OOP, such as classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction. They also cover topics such as design patterns, object-relational mapping, and software development best practices. This seminar are designed to help developers create robust, maintainable, and extensible software applications.
All the students actively participated by making different programs on various concepts discussed during the seminar.
Seminar on Cyber Security
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organized a Seminar on Cyber Security on 22nd Sep 2023 in Computer Lab -4. The Seminar was conducted by Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma for the students of BCA-I
The seminar aims to educate participants about the importance of cyber security and how it can be used to protect sensitive data and information.
Awareness to equip the students with informational tools to understand the cyberspace and the various threats to the privacy, personal information. This also raise awareness and educate students about the risks associated with cybercrime and the measures that can be taken to prevent such activities. Later, a query session took place in the end as a conclusion of the session, wherein students cleared all their doubts.
Two days Workshop on PLC & System updates cum installation
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College, Bathinda Organized “Two days Workshop on PLC & System updates cum installation” for Technical Staff from 18/09/2023 TO 19/09/2023.This workshop was conducted by Software/Hardware Engineer Mr. Vikrant Bansal
The main objective of this WORKSHOP was to make the aspiring technical staff members acquainted with the conceptual as well as practical knowledge of latest technologies so that they could deliver high-quality learning tools for students of all abilities with Windows for education on devices that are secure, easy to deploy and manage.
The idea of organizing this workshop was to teach A “Programmable Logic Controller and System Updating cum installation generally known as PLC. PLCs along with certain other necessary ingredients Like Interactive Setup, Automated installation, Windows Deployment Services
All the technical staff members Mrs. Karamjit Kaur ,Ms.Yadwinder, Ms.Jyoti actively participated in the workshop.

The session was conducted in 2 phases. Teacher’s day celebration by ASCII club
Teaching is a profession that teaches all other professions. A day is kept aside to remember all the teachers. This day is celebrated in commemoration of Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was the well-known diplomat, scholar and above all a teacher.
To carry forward this tradition, Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda, ASCII Club celebrated this occasion with much vigor and enthusiasm. Principal Dr.Rajeev Kumar Sharma , HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal and other staff members along with the students from different classes were present in computer Lab -III on 5th September 2023.
HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal added in her speech that good teacher is a pillar in the life of students.
Principal Dr. Rajeev kumar sharma motivated the students to become a good person. He emphasized on devotion, determination and dedication of a teacher for this profession. The students exhibited their talent and devotion towards teachers through speech and cake cutting.
Induction Programme
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda acclimatized the first-year entrants to the academic environment through the “Induction Programme” organized in the Library Reading Hall of the college on September 6, 2023.
Dr. Vandana Jindal, Head, Department of Computer Science, addressed more than 250 students of different courses, namely, BCA, PGDCA, MSC-IT (Lateral) and DCA and acquainted them with the academic environment in the campus. A power point presentation was shown to the students orienting them towards the curricular, co-curricular activities, and academic practices and achievements of the college.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma urged the students to make the best use of education, focus on self-improvement, learn etiquettes and to actively participate in the various activities organised in the college. Appreciating the industrious faculty of the department, he assured the students that they will certainly gain extensively from their teachers, if they abide by their teachings. He congratulated the faculty of the department, namely HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Rishm, Mrs. Mandeep Kaur, Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur, Mrs. Sandhya, Mrs. Karamjeet Kaur, Ms. Yadwinder Kaur and Mrs. Jyoti on this occasion.
The stage was conducted by Prof. Ramil Gupta. Dr. Shishpal Jindal extended the formal Vote of Thanks.

“Implementation of Different IOT Models”
DAV College Bathinda Organises Competition on “Implementation of Different IOT Models”
The Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda held a Competition on “Implementation of different IoT models” under the ASCII club association.
To emphasize the significance of IoT in computers, a competition for BCA Final year students was organised in the presence of Principal Dr. Rajeev Kr. Sharma, Head Department of Computer Science Dr. Vandana Jindal, and all the faculty members. The final year students participated in this competition and presented their project models. The models were created employing various languages like Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, and React. A variety of models including word scramble game, fitness gym model, Spotify clone, Astute students Community Interaction Interface, etc. were created.
The Head of the Computer Science Department Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof.Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ramil Gupta and Dr. Rishm mentored the students.
Addressing the students, Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma emphasised upon the role of technology in today’s globalised era and urged them to pursue more practical projects in the future. According to him, academic concepts are best comprehended when put into practice, and stated that the college will continue to make efforts to orient students towards preparing projects.
Workshop on “C Programming”
ASCII Club organised three days Workshop on the topic: “C Programming”in computer lab -I from 12th oct to 17th oct 2022 at 2.15pm.The workshop was conducted by Prof. Ramil Gupta ,Dept of Computer Science, D.A.V College, Bathinda for the BCA and PGDCA students .The following workshop was aimed to help the students how to learn C language to score high marks in C programming and understand the language practically.This training helped the students to put their thought process in C language and learn the new programming language with clarity.Major syllabus for C language which includes variable, loops, operators , scopes, functions etc was covered during the workshop.
Also the students were given time to develop their own piece of code via some assignments, which they created and showcased in class practically.

Activities 2021-22
- ASCII Club of Department of Computer Science, DAV College Bathinda organised a quiz Competition on“Programming Language Semantics” on 24th September 2021. Students from various streams like BA, BSC and BCA participated in this competition. Out of a total of 35 participants, Deepinder Singh from BCA final year won the first position, Karan Maurya from BCA 2nd Year won the 2nd prize and the third prize was shared by Gourav from BA 2nd year and Preity from BA 3rd year. The winners were congratulated by HoD Dr. Vandana Jindal, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Rakesh Puri & Prof. Pawan Kumar along with other faculty members of Deptt of Computer Science. The Prof incharge for the event was Prof Ramil Gupta.
