The Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) Scheme for SC and OBC students
The Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) Scheme for SC and OBC students is a government initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, aimed at supporting students from Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes pursuing higher education. At the state level, the scheme is administered by the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment & Minorities, Punjab. The scheme provides financial assistance to eligible students enrolled in various courses at higher education institutions across the country.
To ensure the effective implementation of the scheme and to assist eligible SC and OBC students, DAV College Bathinda has established a dedicated Post Matric Scholarship Cell. This committee organizes orientation programs and interactive sessions to educate students about eligibility criteria and the application process for scholarship. Besides, the committee also conducts meetings with eligible students to address their queries.

Objective
The objective of the scheme as per the guidelines issue by Govt. of India in March 2021 is “..to appreciably increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio of SC students in higher education with a focus on those from the poorest households, by providing financial assistance at post-matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education.”
Scope
“These scholarships are available for studies in India only and the awardees are selected by the State Government/Union Territory to which the applicant actually belongs (i.e. the State/UT in which permanently settled or domiciled, as per the terms of domicile decided by the State). This is applicable to all the students who are currently beneficiaries of the scheme as well as fresh admissions.”
Eligibility
In Punjab, to become eligible for this scheme, the student must be a citizen of Punjab with his/her parents’ annual income less than 2.50 lac. during the running financial year.
